KOWLOON
MOSQUE & ISLAMIC CENTRE |
|
 |

Opened in 1984, the Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre replaced an 1896 mosque built by the British Garrison for its Muslim troops. The newer version, following traditional Islamic design with its dome and minarets, is the city's largest.

THE
CLOCK TOWER |
|
 |

A vivid reminder of the past, the splendid 45-metre-high Clock Tower next to the Kowloon Star Ferry terminal was part of the original Kowloon-Canton Railway Station, built in 1916. The railway itself relocated to nearby Hung Hom in 1975. The clock tower marks the start of the scenic Waterfront Promenade and a rich cluster of cultural venues - the
Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong Space Museum and the
Hong Kong Museum of Art.

NATHAN
ROAD |
|

Paris
has the Champs Elysee and New York has
Fifth Avenue. Welcome to Hong Kong's
most famous street, Nathan Road, a long
boulevard of fine shops and tourist
hotels that sparkles with neon at night.
After Governor Nathan ordered it to be
built at the turn of the century, people
thought it was too wide for the sparsely
populated district and dubbed it "Nathen's
Folly". Today, his vision is more
foresight than folly. This astounding
strectch of concrete is often called the
"Golden Mile" - rarely will you
leave it empty-handed.

WATERFRONT
PROMENADE |
|

The Waterfront Promenade, stretching from the Star Ferry, past Tsim Sha Tsui East to Hung Hom, offers stunning views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong Island skyline. The busy harbour is always a fascinating sight, with ferries, junks, barges and tugs navigating the waters. For a bit of magic, watch the sun set and the lights of the city come up. Near the end of the Promenade is the main terminal (Hung Hom Station) of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) and the
Hong Kong Coliseum, boasting a 12,500-seat arena for sports events, concerts and exhibitions. Check local listings and you may be able to catch a world-class show. Hung Hom offers an alternative to fancy designer boutiques : a cluster of
factory outlets for ready-to-wear fashion, shoes and sportswear.
